BC High School Rodeo Association – Building Champions in and out of the arena for over 40 years!

High School Rodeo promotes the sport of Rodeo and the highest conduct of sportsmanship, exposes a positive image to the public, promotes the Western Heritage, promotes family, friendship, mentorship and offers the opportunity of continuing to higher education.

There are currently around 200 students from all over British Columbia competing in Regional Rodeos within the BC High School Rodeo Association’s North and South divisions. Our rodeo season follows the academic calendar, beginning each September and ending with Provincial Finals in June. Members range from Grades 6-8 in the Junior High School Division and Grades 9-12 in the High School Division. Members compete in their events while supporting one another, learning from one another and ultimately creating friendships that will last a lifetime.

BC High School Rodeo operates solely on the support of business and families. Both of our Regions host independent rodeos in communities throughout the Province during the season. We also host two joint events each season. Our season ends with two Provincial Finals – one for the Juniors and one for the Seniors, where both Regions send their top 12 competitors from each event where they will compete for the title of BC Champion as well as a qualification to compete at the Canadian and National High School Finals Rodeos.

As an Association, we pride ourselves in making High School Rodeo a rewarding and fulfilling experience for our competitors and their families. Our members are expected to work to the best of their abilities academically and we strive to support continued post-secondary education. Students are required to maintain a certain grade level and must have their Principal sign each rodeo entry form stating that they are in good standing at school. We endeavor to present scholarships to our graduating class by way of scholarship applications. Criteria must be met and approved by a Scholarship Interview Committee which is made up of a group of five people who may include alumni, local business people, educators, political or media personalities and/or anyone with a genuine interest in the sport of Rodeo, Over the years we have supported many members in pursuing a wide range of careers including Agriculture, Veterinary, Business, Medical, Environmental and Trades. We are also required by the National High School Rodeo Association, to present our High School Division Provincial Champions in each event with a $250 scholarship.

The BCHSRA is endeavoring to provide the support to allow these students to participate in a sport which helps develop their spirit of sportsmanship, citizenship and responsibility. We are seeking support for awards, scholarships and production costs for our rodeos Province wide.
